Yoni Steaming: a How-To Guide

In this simple tutorial, you'll learn two different methods to Yoni Steam simply at home using our Ancestral Stool.
Set up:
Create a sacred, quiet space in your home free of distraction, if possible. Light candles, prepare a nourishing beverage, choose your favorite book or put on a calming playlist. Set an intention for your yoni steam session.
Hot Water Method: Place a heat safe bowl (a soup pot or a glass pyrex bowl will do) underneath the stools opening. (I like to elevate the bowl closer to the opening- a roll of toilet paper seems to be the perfect height for this.) Using your chosen yoni steaming herbs pour the hot water over the herbs, approximately 1/4 cup of herbs with 4 cups (or more with water- quantity of water isn't really a factor in the overall experience of yoni steaming).
Hot Plate Method: In this method, you can use a portable hot plate and soup pot with water and yoni steaming herbs-the benefit of using this method is that you can steam for a longer period of time due to consistent heat.

Squat down over the stool and wrap a long towel or blanket around yourself and the stool. If you find the steam too hot, wait a minute or two to allow the steam to reduce or part your legs slightly while still squatting to release the steam to your comfort level.

How long should I steam for?
The length of steam varies women to women. For women with cycle lengths shorter than 28 days and with excess heat issues (ie, hot flashes, nightsweats or infections) steaming for 10 minutes is recommended. Women with regular cycle lengths or amenhorrhea (absense of menses) will benefit from steam sessions 30 minutes in length.

How often should I steam?
Steaming is recommending both before and after menses, but not during as to not disrupt the natural process of downflow bleeding. For best results, steam 1-3x before and after your menses.
What are the best herbs to steam with?
Our favorite herbs to steam with are uterine tonics such as Red Raspberry Leaf, Calendula, Rosemary, and Chamomile- since every women needs different support in the many phases of her life- we have created three blends of herbal yoni steams that nourish the maiden, mother and crone.
What time of day is best to steam?
Since yoni steaming is a relaxing, yet detoxifying process, the ritual may cause you to be tired afterwards. Nighttime, before bed would be the best time to steam.

Can I steam while pregnant?
Steaming is not recommended during pregnancy, but is an excellent ritual for improving post partum healing. Please read this study showing the amazing benefits of post partum steaming for accelerated recovery.

Can I use essential oils?
Essential oils are NOT recommended as they are concentrated volatile oils that can cause damage to sensitive tissues in large amounts. By using whole, organic herbs, the appropriate amount of naturally occurring volatile oils carries the perfect amount of volatile oil that WILL travel via steam into the bloodstream of the vaginal area. Using organic herbs suitable for vaginal hydrotherapy helps to enhance the overall effectiveness of the steam by delivering healing plant chemicals into the bloodstream.
